Movies for Wednesday March 14th, 2018

March 14th is Pi Day, which is held annually to celebrate the mathematical constant; it is also the birthday of Albert Einstein (born March 14th 1879). Often the two events are celebrated together. To commemorate Pi Day, films about Mathematics will be focussed on as the theme for today... enjoy!

1 A Beautiful Mind (2001) Director Ron Howard
Academy Award winning film based on the real life of Nobel Prize Winner John Nash (played by Russell Crowe) and his struggles with schizophrenia-Crowe is great in his portrayal, which won him an Oscar nomination...

2 Straw Dogs (1971) Director Sam Peckinpah
Brutal film about a mathematician who moves into a British town and ends up the victim of the local bullies-not for the faint hearted...

3 Good Will Hunting (1997) Director Gus Van Sant
A gifted janitor (Matt Damon) at MIT finds help from a professor (Robin Williams) to excel at mathematics-Williams won an Academy Award for his portrayal...

4 Pi (1998) Director Darren Aronofsky

I hope the above list of films will provide hours of enlightening entertainment-enjoy!
