March 17th is Saint Patrick's Day, which is a yearly holiday to
celebrate the most commonly recognized patron Saint of Ireland. On this
day, many celebrate the culture of Ireland. With Saint Patrick's Day
in mind, the theme for today will be movies of Ireland... enjoy!
1 The Quiet Man (1952) Director John Ford
Beautifully
shot film about a retired boxer (John Wayne) who returns home and falls
in love with a local woman (Maureen O'Hara)-the Irish landscape is
breathtaking, and the film won an Academy Award for cinematography; also
won an Oscar for Best Director...
2 My Left Foot (1989) Director Jim Sheridan
Film
based on the life of famed painter Christy Brown (played by Daniel
Day-Lewis) who painted with his foot due to cerebral palsy-Lewis won an
Academy Award for his performance...
3 The Commitments (1991) Director Alan Parker
Movie about a band who were able to bring soul music to the people of Dublin Ireland-great soundtrack...
4 The Snapper (1993) Director Stephen Frears
Tells the story of a young woman who ends up pregnant in a small Irish town...
As I have seen all but one film from the above list (My Left Foot) I look forward to your feedback-enjoy!
