March 30th is National Doctor's Day, which is celebrated every March
30th in the United States. The first Doctors Day observance was held in
1933 in Georgia by the wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond to commemorate the
good works of all doctors throughout the U.S. This first observance
included mailing greeting cards and placing flowers on graves to
commemorate those who had dedicated their lives to the profession.... a
red carnation is the symbolic flower used to represent National Doctors
Day. With National Doctors Day in mind, the theme for today will be
movies that have doctors as prominent characters in them-enjoy!
1 Awakenings (1990) Director Penny Marshall
Film
based on the true story of Dr. Malcolm Sayer (Robin Williams) who
created a drug for individuals who suffered from a mysterious disease
that put them in a catatonic state-Williams is good in this understated
role, and Robert De Niro is also good as patient suffering from
mysterious disease-De Niro was nominated for an Academy Award for his
portrayal...
2 Doctor Zhivago (1965) Director David Lean

the story of a doctor/poet (Omar Sharif) who falls in love while
already married during the Bolshevik Revolution-nominated for several
Oscars including Best Film and Best Director...
3 Silence of the Lambs (1991) Director Jonathan Demme
Film
about a young FBI cadet (Jodie Foster) who must enlist the help of a
convicted serial killer (Anthony Hopkins) to assist her in apprehending
another serial killer (Ted Levine)-Foster, Hopkins and Levine are all
superb in their roles, garnering Foster and Hopkins Academy Awards for
Acting; film also won Oscar for Best Picture, Directing and Writing...
4 Analyze This (1999) Director Harold Ramis
Comedy
about a mobster (Robert De Niro) who seeks the help of a psychiatrist
(Billy Crystal) for his stressful job-both De Niro and Crystal are
charming in their over the top performances...
As there are many films that could be used for this theme I look forward to your feedback... enjoy!
