Movies for Thursday July 8, 2010

July 8 is the day of the annual Soapy Smith Party at Magic Castle , Hollywood California and the Soapy Smith Wake held in Skagway, Alaska which celebrate the life and death of Jefferson Randolph "Soapy" Smith who was a famous American con artist and gangster of the old west, killed in the famed Shootout on Juneau Wharf resulting in his death on July 8 1898. With this legendary con man in mind, the theme for today will be films with characters based on "Soapy Smith" -enjoy!

1 The Far Country (1954) Director: Anthony Mann
Story of two fortune hunters (James Stewart & Walter Brennan) who decide to sell cattle to a klondike town...

2 Two Way Stretch (1960) Director: Robert Day
Film about a robber (Peter Sellers) who intends to break out of prison and steal a fortune in diamonds...

3 Call of the Wild (1972) Director: Ken Annakin
Movie based on the novel about a house dog who is taken from its home to become a sled dog of the north...

As I have only seen one film from the above list (Call of the Wild) I look forward to your response... enjoy!
