Movies for Monday July 5, 2010

July 5 is known as Bloody Thursday which commemorates the 1934 West Coast Longshoremen's strike, which lasted eighty three days and led to the unionization of all of the West Coast Ports of the United States. With Bloody Thursday in mind... the theme for today will be films about unions... enjoy!

1 On the Waterfront (1954) Director Elia Kazan
Academy Award winning film about an ex -prize fighter (Marlon Brando) working as a longshoreman who attempts to stand up to his corrupt union bosses. Film won eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor for Marlon Brando and Best Actress for Eva Marie Saint as Brando's girlfriend...

2 Norma Rae (1979) Director Martin Ritt

3 Hoffa (1992) Director: Danny DeVito

As I have seen all but one film (Hoffa) from the above list of movie picks, I look forward to your feedback-enjoy!
