Movies for Friday October 15, 2010

October 15 is White Cane Safety Day, which is a national observance in the United States to celebrate the achievements of the visually impaired. With this in mind, the theme for today will be films about people with visual impairments-enjoy!

1 The Miracle Worker (1962) Director: Arthur Penn
Film about teacher Anne Sullivan (Anne Bancroft) and her work with Helen Keller (Patty Duke) - both Bancroft and Duke were nominated for Academy Awards for their portrayals...

2 Wait Until Dark (1967) Director: Terence Young
Movie about a woman (Audrey Hepburn) who is recently blinded and terrorized by a group of intruders looking for drugs; Hepburn was nominated for an Oscar for her performance...

3 Proof (1991) Director: Jocelyn Moorhouse
Tells the story of a blind photographer (Hugo Weaving) whose life becomes disrupted with the arrival of a new relationship...

As I have seen all but one film from the above list (The Miracle Worker) I look forward to your feedback-enjoy!
