Movies for Tuesday June 15, 2010

On June 15 1974, a man dies as rival demonstrators clashed with police and each other in London. The National Front was marching against amnesty for illegal immigrants while members of the International Marxist Group marching against racism became embroiled in clashes with the National Front leaving many injured and one dead. With this day in history in mind... the theme for today will be films about hate organizations - enjoy!

1 American History X (1998) Director: Tony Kaye
A former skin head (Edward Norton) tries to stop his younger brother (Edward Furlong) from following in his footsteps-Norton is mesmerizing in his performance which won him an Academy Award nomination...

2 Romper Stomper (1992) Director: Geoffrey Wright
A group of skinheads become angered at how their neigbourhood is changing-Russell Crowe is great in this early role...

3 The Believer (2001) Director: Henry Bean
Film about young Jewish man (Ryan Gosling) who becomes anti-Semitic and subsequently joins the KKK...

I hope that the above list of films provides hours of interesting viewing... enjoy!
