Friday April 2 is Good Friday, which is a holiday observed primarily by Christians to remember the crucifixion of Jesus Christ and his death at Calvary; it often coincides with the Jewish observance of Passover. With Good Friday in mind, the theme for today will be movies with the crucifixion-enjoy!
1 Ben-Hur (1959) Director William Wyler
Academy Award winning film about a Jewish prince (Charles Heston) who is sent into slavery, regains his freedom and comes back for revenge-won 11 Oscars including Best Director for Wyler, and Best Actor for Heston...
2 Monty Python's Life of Brian (1979) Director Terry Jones
Story of Brian (Graham Chapman) who continues to be mistaken for the real messiah; controversial for its time, due to the fact that it pokes fun at Christianity-Chapman is funny in lead role...
3 The Passion of the Christ (2004) Director Mel Gibson
Controversial film about the crucifixion; received mixed reviews and garnered criticism for its graphic depictions and anti-Semitic undertones...
As I have seen all but one film from the above list (The Passion of the Christ) I look forward to your feedback... enjoy!
