An unusual theme for Holiday movies - but makes sense when a lot of these films are about contemplating life and its worth during this time of year - so all of these films have the common thread of the main players thinking about potentially taking their own life - here is a list:

1. It's a Wonderful Life (1946) Director:  Frank Capra

3. Elf (2003) Director: Jon Favreau

Charming movie where Eddie Murphy and Dan Akroyd trade places and learn much about life...

7. About a Boy (2002) Director: Chris Weitz & Paul Weitz
An immature man learns how to grow up with the help of an outcast boy.  Hugh Grant is very good in the leading role...

8. Mixed Nuts (1994) Director: Nora Ephron
Follows the ups and downs of a group of people over the holidays...

9. The Shop Around the Corner (1940) Director: Ernst Lubitsch
Romantic comedy about two employees (James Stewart & Margaret Sullavan) at a gift shop who start out hating each other and eventually falling for one another; great cast, with standout performances by Stewart & Sullavan…

10. The Apartment  (1960) Director: Billy Wilder
Sweet film about a man (Jack Lemmon) who tries to rise in his company by letting its executives use his apartment for romantic trysts; won several Academy Awards including: Best Picture, Director & Writing; great cast with standout performances by Lemmon, Shirley MacLaine (Lemmon & MacLaine were both nominated for their roles) & Fred MacMurray as womanizing boss...

I have seen all  of these films and would highly recommend all but Mixed Nuts - that you would have to be in a forgiving mood for- Enjoy!
